Food for thought for the Feildians

Jimmy Flemming for the Nationals - Feildians

We had a masters soccer game yesterday evening against the CBS Masters and the CBS defeated us, the Coast 101.1 ,by a 2-0 score.
Jimmy Flemming scored both goals for the CBS team. His first goal came at the 75 minute mark and his second goal was scored in the dying moments of the contest. Actually towards games end,Coast were pressing and CBS scored on a counter attack.
It was a real good game. Probably the best game Coast played for the season but the difference in the game was Jimmy Flemming. If the Feildians were wise they should consider picking up Flemming for the Nationals. He would be good replacement for Steve Croft. Picking up Flemming would be permitted according to the present rules and regulations set out by the CSA.
Croft is not available to the Feildians because he is studying medicine and as a result of his schedule he is unable to play.

London AEK Are In !!! Toronto Real Are Out !!!

London AEK will be the Ontario representatives at the 2008 Sr. Men's National Soccer Championships.

An ineligible player disqualifies Real Toronto from Ontario Title

Toronto Real have been disqualified from participating in the 2008 National Challenge Cup. On Friday, the OSA confirmed Real Toronto used an ineligible player. Real Toronto had signed a maximum 25 players to its roster. It signed an additional player who played, giving the team one more than the allowed limit and making that player ineligible.
A Big Question?
Is the 25 player roster rule a Canadian Soccer Association rule or an Ontario Soccer Association rule? The NLSA has permitted Challenge Cup teams in Newfoundland to register however many players they like. There has never a been a limited number of players that you may register in Newfoundland during provincial competition in a given season. Mind you, I realize that we are only permitted to put 20 players on a game sheet. All Newfoundland clubs are aware that you may register 25 players before the National Tournament. However, only 20 of these players are permitted to play in the Nationals and the coach must submit his final list of players 72 hours before the National Challenge Cup Championships begin. I would`love to get some clarification on this 25 player roster rule.

Thomas Kargbo by Gord Dunphy

Thomas Kargbo - A kid with a bright future

Former St. John’s native Thomas Kargbo, who now resides in Calgary Alberta, is presently back home visiting friends. Thomas Kargo moved from St. John’s to Calgary in 2005. While home he has joined a group of his soccer buddies and is playing intermediate soccer with the St. John’s FC Team.
Kargbo, who is 17 years of age, is a prospect of the mighty Manchester United Soccer Team and spent the past summer over in England
training with the Manchester United Youth Team. Kargbo informed me that he “ was scouted by Tony Cont”. He is presently being trained by Thomas Nedderf, the same person that scouted Canada’s own Owen Hargraves. Hargraves is presently a big league star with the Man United Team. When I asked Kargbo what he felt the future would hold for him in soccer, he said, “I am hoping that Man United would sign me to a professional contract in December with their youth team”. Kargbo told me that he also played senior ball in Alberta this year with Pars Soccer Club.

A star is born

In 2005, when the Burin Peninsula Under 16 “A” Team played St. John’s in the provincial final, St. John’s, realizing Kargbo’s value to their team, flew him home for the championship series and it was in the final that his real value came through. He scored two goals in the Championship game as St. John’s defeated the BPSA team by a score of 3-2. In tonight’s contest Kargobo's St. John’s FC team defeated the International squad by a score of 3-0. Kargbo set up his team’s first goal and he scored the other 2 goals. The kid has speed, great vision, super foot work and a dynamic shot.

He is a great treat to watch and hopefully someday we will be able to tune into Soccer Saturday and watch Thomas Kargbo, the superstar performing with Manchester United of the English Premier League. Maybe even when he is interviewed he’ll inform the audience that he got his start in soccer right here in St.John’s, Newfoundland.

Dave was Thomas' first coach in

When Dave saw him play,
he couldn't believe his skills.

Soccer registration

Soccer registration higher than hockey

Soccer has become more popular than hockey as a participation sport in this country, with 867,869 players registered with Soccer Canada in 2007 (including 732,521 under age 18) compared with 545,363 with Hockey Canada in 2006-07. The lower cost associated with soccer is often mentioned as the reason, but the lower pressure level - both on kids and parents - might also have something to do with it.
