Norman leads Laurentians to opening game victory

In the opening game of the Molson Challenge Cup Soccer played in St. Lawrence, the St. Lawrence Labatt Laurentians defeated the Newfoundland and Labrador Games Team by a very slim margin of 2-1. The Provincial Canada Games Team came out flying and totally dominated the Laurentian’s in the first period. At the 36 minute mark it was the NL Provincial Canada Games’s coach’s son, Albert Anstey Jr. who scored the opening goal on a penalty shot. This was the only goal scored in the first half.

In the second half, things changed considerably. The Laurentian’s came out very composed and went on the attack, and in less than 10 minutes, the Laurentian’s had dented the twine twice. The Laurentians Paul Slaney scored a goal at the 51 minute mark and then at the 54 minute mark, veteran Rudy Norman scored , giving the Laurentians a 2-1 score. The Laurentians looked very comfortable at this point ,controlling the ball and making several great plays. In the end, the Laurentians opened up the 2009 season with a victory.
