Molson Challenge Cup Score Sheet

Mount Pearl 3 vs St.Lawrence 0

Mount Pearl - A Conteder

In a contest that was to determine Mount Pearl status this season, they showed up really, willing and able. For most part this season the emphasis has been focused on the two top seeded teams, St.Lawrence and Holy Cross. But today, Mount Pearl, playing on Laurentian soil, came to show they there are going to be a contender for this year's Provincial Challenge Cup Championship.

A Convincing Win

The victory for Mount Pearl was very decisive and convincing. It wasn't only a win, it was 3-0 shellacking of the Laurentians in St.Lawrence. This accomplishment by Mount Pearl is something that not a lot of clubs can attach to their resume in the history of soccer in St.Lawrence. For most part the first half was sort of an even affair. The play generally was concentrated in the mid-field but towards the end of the half Mount Pearl seemed to be more determined. This determination was very evident in the second half as Mount Pearl, out ran, out hustled, out scored the Laurentians for a very deserving victory.

Should be interesting !!

Today at 12 noon both teams will be back on the field in St.Lawrence for a rematch. A win in this contest by the Laurentians will basically nullify Mount Pearl victory on Saturday. But should Mount Pearl win they will be only one point behind the Laurentians for second place in the overall standings. Should be interesting !!

Other games

In two other Molson Challenge Cup Games on Saturday, Holy Cross defeated the Canada games team by a 2-0 score. While on the West Coast of NL in Corner Brook, Western United FC defeated Feildians by a 3-2 score. With this victory, Western United now moves 7 points ahead of the Feildians team for 4th and final play-off position.
